ASUS → Asus to update HD DVD laptop for Core 2 Duo

Asus is preparing to update its W2 mobile multimedia notebook, equipping the new machine not only with a range of Core 2 Duo mobile microprocessors but also ATI's new Mobility Radeon X1700 chip and an HD DVD drive with HDMI output.

Called the W2P, the new machine builds on the W2J announced by Asus earlier this year. According to the W2P's specifications - 3.3kg, 39.5 x 29 x 3.5cm colossus will sport a WUXGA 1,920 x 1,200 display driven by the ATI GPU, which is connected to 256MB of GDDR 3 video memory. If that's not enough, the W2P can feed an HD TV through is HDMI port. The machine has on-board HDCP support.

Expectations about the availability of the Ultra-Mobile PC R2H made by Asustek have been on the air for a long time, but there is no need to worry about it anymore because the official announcement was made and the famous UMCP is currently on the market for more than $1,000 – sadly there isn't information on a exact price yet. Besides Asus R2H there is another smaller model (R1H) being developed by the same people which will probably make use of the Intel Core2 Duo platform and have smaller dimensions (read 13-inch).

Asus has announced its new A8Js notebook which is built around Intel's new Core 2 Duo processors. The A8Js features a 14.1" WXGA+ (1440x900) screen and comes packed with NVIDIA's latest solution for the mobile graphics arena.
