Panasonic → Panasonic Announced “Santa Rosa”-Based CF-74, CF-52 Toughbooks

The European Panasonic has announced that its refreshed CF-74 and CF-52 Toughbook ruggedized laptops, featuring the latest Intel mobile “Santa Rosa” platform, will be available in June and July respectively. “The new Intel mobile technology platform is centered on an Intel Core 2 Duo processor with an 800 MHz front-side bus, mobile Intel 965 Express chipset, Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN wireless module, and Intel Turbo Memory,” Panasonic explains.
Laptops → OLPC seeks educational games for XO laptop

The OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) Project is asking software coders to develop free, open-source educational computer games for the XO laptop, continuing its push toward a September launch date. OLPC offered a laptop prize on Thursday for software teams who create new games during a three-day "game jam" scheduled to begin June 8 on the campus of Olin College, an engineering school in Needham, Massachusetts. By increasing the software available for the XO, OLPC hopes to encourage governments of developing countries to order more laptops, pushing the group to its sales goal of 3 million units by May 30. OLPC had collected 2.5 million orders by late April but needed to boost sales enough to order bulk computer parts and stick to the manufacturing schedule.

The chip maker has pulled out all the stops for its proposed laptop, which was built in conjunction with Ziba Design of Portland, Oregon. Flash memory instead of a hard drive makes it thinner and lighter (2.25 pounds), and boosts battery life to up to 14 hours. It's compatible with Wi-Fi, WiMax (wireless broadband over large areas) and high-speed cellular data networks, meaning it's always connected to the Web no matter where it is.
Laptops → Intel Centrino to Feature 802.11n Wireless

The news that forthcoming Intel Centrino laptop platform (known as Santa Rosa and Centrino Pro) will feature draft 802.11n wireless, even though the final ratification of this standard isn’t likely to come until 2008, are confirmed again. Alan Crouch, director and general manager of Intel’s Communications Technology Lab, said during a presentation at the IEEE Globecom 2006 Expo that Intel expects to put a prestandard version of IEEE 802.11n Wi-Fi technology into its Centrino chips by next year.
